Jeffreys Bay Golf Club

Local Rules

Applicable from 1 June 2010

1.     Rocks, Stones, Trees, Service Roads and Cart Paths.

These are part of the course and therefore free drops are applicable. From the rough, off the rocks, one club length, not nearer the hole, provided that your marker agrees. Newly planted trees are indicated by white stakes and relief may be taken under rule 24.

2.     Preferred Lies.

2.1  Placing By Hand within one club length and not nearer the hole is allowed on the Fairway In Play only. The ball must be marked before you may pick it up and it may only be placed once, after which it will be in play. Should the ball then move, it must be played as it lies; (Rule 20-3d). It may not be placed from the fairway onto the green, but may be placed from the fairway into the semi rough within one club length. With the placing you may not improve your line or stance. Should the ball be behind a tree or on a slope, higher or lower than your feet, the status quo must be maintained.

2.2  If the ball lies on the edging groove around the putting green, the player may, without penalty, lift the ball, clean it and place it out of the groove in the nearest position to whether on or off the putting green, which is not nearer the hole.

3.     Out of bounds.

3.1  All perimeter fences. Remember the squash court wall is a fence, as well as the area to the right of hole 3 and 12 – the row of trees, indicated by white stakes-, and the right side of hole 1 and 10 indicated with white stakes. Penalty and ball to be played from original lie.

3.2 The open area next to the practice green and holes 1 and 10, practice/chipping green and the Club house Complex.

4.1  The wall behind green 6/15; play as it lies or take a drop in demarcated dropping zone under penalty of one shot.

4.2  The gardens to the right of holes 4/13 and behind holes 7/16 are G.U.R.; compulsory drops in demarcated dropping zone without penalty.

4.3  The stones surrounding these gardens are obstructions and a free drop may be taken under rule 24-2(b)(i).

5.     Storm Water Ditches.

Drop out of storm water ditches without penalty, except the ditch between the 4th green and the 6th fairway.

6.     Molehills.

Relief may be taken from molehills or remains of molehills (Rule 25-1), provided that such remains are still identifiable as a cast made by a burrowing animal, reptile or bird and provided that your marker agrees. The scratch marks of  Guinea fowl must be treated as molehills.
